This tutorial shows you step by step how you can make your Instagram account and Profile private, and shield it from strangers.

By default, everyone can see your profile and photos on Instagram.

You can also set your account to private and therefore shield it from strangers so that only those you have approved can see your profile, photos, list of followers, and list of people you follow.
Make IG Account and Profile Private (new way)
- Open the Instagram app.
- Go to your profile by tapping your profile photo at the bottom right.
- Tap Settings at the bottom of the menu.
- Tap Account Privacy.
- Then tap the switch button next to Private account.
- Then enter “OK”.
Your Instagram account is now a private account and from now on people must send you a follow request if they want to view your profile, photos, list of followers, and list of people you follow. People who don’t follow you can send you a photo or video directly.
Make your Instagram account and Profile Private (the Old way)
- Open the Instagram App
- Go to your profile by tapping your profile photo at the bottom right.
- Tap the 3-point menu icon in the top right to go to options. If you don’t see the 3-point menu icon, tap the 3-line menu icon and then tap Setting at the bottom
- Scroll to Private account.
- Tap the switch next to Private account.
- Tab OK.
